I was looking for an inexpensive set of headphones to use at the gym. I saw the negative reviews for V-Moda Sports, but decided to give these a try anyway - the deal at Costco was too difficult to pass up and V-Moda has a good reputation.
After using the headphones straight out of the box, I had the same complaint as the majority of reviewers - the sound was crappy. It was flat and beyond unimpressive. However, I also noted that this was the most comfortable set of in-ear headphones I have ever tried - they are light, fit very nicely in my ear, form a good seal, and produce little or no irritation or pain after prolonged use - which is usually my main problem with earbuds and in-ears. The cord is about the right length and is not too thick. Considering that I was getting these for use at the gym or while running, I decided that stellar sound quality is not is not as important as comfort and suitability for use during exercise. So I kept them.
Here is the thing - as time went by, the sound got better. Significantly better. Never thought burn-in can make a difference with such small headphones, but apparently it does in this case. After about 20 hours of use, the flatness started to disappear, the sound become cleaner, more balanced. To make sure it was not just my ear getting used to bad sound, I gave them a break and then came back to using them later. It was definitely better. I listen to all types of music, with different sound profiles, and these headphones now handle them all quite well. Are they as good as some of the fancier competition? Probably not. But for a [...] set for use at the gym or while your out and about they are great.

I am not going to be overly critical of the sound of these earbuds. Personally, I don't think they sound that bad. I played through my iPhone some old Led Zeppelin tunes from before they were cleaned up, and they actually sounded pretty good. Then I listened to some old jazz, and they sounded pretty good. They sounded clear and bright while listening to some Windham Hill and Narada guitar tunes. Not muddy, not flat at all.
But what is the point of running these down when they don't sound like your Rotel driven through your B&Ws? They are SPORT earbuds. That means they are for running or working out. I use mine underneath my noise-canceling headphones while I mow the lawn and use the trimmer, both of which are very loud. I don't need perfection. What's more, if I'm running on the treadmill or bouncing up and down on the street, I don't need perfection. I listen to a lot of podcasts while I'm working in the yard or on the pool. Again, perfection isn't the point.
Now, whether these will withstand my abuse is another question. They aren't the thickest things, but none I've ever bought has lasted forever. [...].

I have seen this at Costco for a while and I thought I would be getting a good deal (bought it for $25 after instant rebate). I don't use earbud/earphone much since I normally plug my iPod into my car. I currently own a pair of Skull Candy which I bought from Marshall's for $10 ($20 if you buy from Target).
When I first tried the V-Moda, I noticed it sounded muddy but I did not want to believe my ears (I was in denial!). I thought the songs (which are in loss-less format) sounded muddy. I then went and grab my cheap $10 Skull Candy and listened to the same parts of the songs and man, you don't have to have good ears to hear the difference. The $10 Skull Candy sounds clearer and brighter.
For $30 regular price, I think they [V-Moda] can do better than this.

I purchased these headphones several months ago and I have been more than pleased with them. [...] had an instant rebate at the time, so I got these for under $[...]. The pack comes with different sized earpiece endings so you can get the perfect size to fit in your ear. They have very good quality sound (treble and bass). Exterior noise is almost all eliminated when you insert these into your ears. I use with with my mp3 player, my iPhone, my laptop, and my desktop at work. They are great for exercise as well; I use them daily while I jog and bike. If you are looking for good quality headphones for a very decent price, these V-Modas are the way to go!!

I really am at a loss to understand the negative reviews of this. I bought a different pair of noise isolation ear buds that were rated 4+ stars and they were horrible! I picked these up at [...]o for 29.99, and I thought they were amazing. Maybe I'm just not an audiophile enough to appreciate really good sound, but these are the best pair of $30 ear buds I have ever owned. And they do a decent job of noise isolation too.
