 "Try something else" 2009-10-29

When my iPod Shuffle finally died I looked to replace it with another but the new Shuffle has the volume control on the cord which would not work for me. I ended up ordering a 16GB Nano 4G. I typically run five days a week and two to three of those will be with music. I originally ordered the Belkin armband and although it had some nice features, the top loading design allowed sweat from the upper arm to flow right into it and even simple humidity would let moisture accumulate. Did a long run and there was actually condensation forming inside the screen of my new iPod. Additionally, it seemed to be constructed with cheap materials.

I purchsed the Insport armband case and the neoprene is thicker. Although the exterior was wet after running 20 miles, the iPod was completely dry. It also loads from the bottom which concerned me at first because I was worried about the player sliding out but the elastic as well as the tension when strapped to the arm held it in securely. The only other opening is a small hole at the top for access to the hold switch. I'm 5'11, 175 pounds and I had no problem fitting this around my bicep. I'm a runner though, not a bodybuilder so if you have truly huge arms, this may not work

Belkin

Pros: Lighter weight, one slot for storing excess headphone cord and one on the inside surface for a cash or small key (you will not be able to fit any car key that has electronic components but a house key will fit).

Cons: The top loading design does not keep the player dry. The plastic over the face of the click wheel is too thick for adjusting the volume.

Incase

Pros: Thicker material to protect the iPod. the plastic is thinner and even while running I can adjust the volume.

Cons: The hole for the hold switch is not necessary and could potentially let water enter if it begins to rain. For the average amount of sweat though it does fine. The strap is oriented to the front of your arm if worn on the left side. Since I'm right handed this is how I wear it which leaves the excess strap on the inside of the arm which could be distracting. Nothing major though. My biggest complaint is the price. At almost $30, it's way more than the $12 I paid for the belkin. For the peace of mind of not worrying about moisture, it is worth it.

 "Excellent Product!" 2009-10-22

I really enjoy using this armband! In fact, I bought one about 9 months ago, and I just bought two more just in case they stop selling the product. I find most armbands shift/move around when lifting weights or running. This armband stays in place. I use this armband at least 4-5 days a week while doing weights and running (typically avg. 15 miles a week). I've owned the first armband for about 9 months now and it's starting to show some wear and tear. I wash mine in the wash machine once a week. I like the small pocket behind the ipod to store a key or cash. There is also a very small pocket used to store the Nike+ receiver (at least that's what I use if for.) Lastly, it has small access slits at the bottom to plug in the headphones jack and Nike+ receiver. I would buy this armband again and would highly recommend this armband! Note - I have noticed SMALL amounts of condensation build up (from sweat) behind the plastic after long runs, but I try and remove the Ipod from the armband as soon as I can after my long runs.

This armband works well with the iPod nano, headphones are easily accessed and overall it stays secure while I run, etc... The only complaints I have with it are, it is hard to spin the wheel through this plastic casing. Also the armband does not stretch very far so if you have bigger arms this is not ideal.

I purchased this armband for use while running because it was the first available armband for the 4g nano. I was very happy with it up until the summer heat hit. It is very comfortable to wear, but if someone had arms any bigger than mine (14"), I imagine it would be a little tight. While the pocket on it is a little useless, it's a nice feature for a key or a couple dollars. i don't think the screen does not interfere with the controls, they work just fine for me. I wore it during the rain season and it kept my iPod completely dry, even through hard rainfall. I didn't have any problems with sweat seeping through during the winter (I live in So Cal, so the winters are mild). However, once summer hit, I started noticing sweat gets through the armband into the case, and my iPod is very wet at the end of my runs. I'm not sure if this is because it's getting old (I've had it for ten months), or because I'm sweating more because of the heat. Either way, I'll be replacing it, because I don't want to ruin my iPod. This is a nice, comfortable case, but if you're concerned about it being sweat-proof, I'd find another case.

Cons: You cant access the clickwheel through the pastic screen. Impossible to navigate tracks, even changing the volume settings takes some effort.

Pros: Its cheap and doesnt look too bad.

Caveat: I havent tried any other armbands so cant compare.
