The sound and fidelity of these phones are more than satisfying for my pedestrian tastes. They quickly moved up to be in the top 2 of the 10 or so headphone sets that I own. As an added bonus I found that they blocked out airplane noise pretty well. I also appreciated the placement of the cord in the rear so that it didn't get in the way when working out; and the rubberized earpads were not a sopping mess when used while working out. These factors led me to get over the dorky way I thought that they made me look while wearing them at the gym. For my intended use of bike riding, walking on a treadmill using an eliptical machine and weight machines, these phones disappoint. Initially I felt good about them because of the sound quality and because I liked the secure fit and feel of the phones. I didn't have to worry about them falling out or off of my ears and you can turn them up really loud without distortion overtaking them. My complaint was that after extended wear the grips irritate and pinch the ear and head. You also can't wear them comfortably with glasses.
In short, I got thru all of last summer before they self destructed. You never know how bad you miss stereo until you got Bob Marley blasting thru only one ear; you keep waiting for the other beat that never comes because one of the phones is out. Apparently the combination of my sweat dripping onto the cord and the repetitive pulling and tugging that occurs when active, causes the cord to separate from the headband and short out.
I went back to the retailer and they exchanged it for another of the same unit; yes this was 1 year later. Karma hit me as the replacement pair just crapped out on me for the exact same reason. I wasn't willing to pay the retailers price for what I consider to be disposable phones. I note now that the retailer sells the Nike Aero to replace these poorly constructed phones. The Aero model has a plastic reinforcement "clip" over the area where the cord and band meet which might give the phones a little more life. Another thing that I thought that I saw was the name of Philips in smaller print on the phones. This leads me to believe that that Nike just "stamps" their name on them.
I came to Amazon to see if I could find a comparable Philips sports headphone instead of the Aero model. I figured that they'd be cheaper than something that Philips made for Nike. No luck, but thats ok, I still got 9 other pairs of headphones.

They seemed very sturdy, but like many others have said they easily fail.

I bought these headphones and loved them. In fact, I loved them so much that when one of the speakers stopped working, I went out and bought another pair.
Both sets of headphones lost sound to one speaker within a few months.
...and I don't run or work out. They stopped working under average wear and tear.
That makes me sad inside.

I bought a pair of these headphones last year, thinking like everybody else, that it's nice to see a pair of sweatproof headphones. And then, apparently like everyone else, the wire starting having problems, sound became crackly, and eventually one earphone gave out. And this is after less than 2 months! For $30, I expect a little bit more. C'mon, Nike. Try some quality control before putting your name on a product!

I have bought countless types of headphones looking for best fit for gym and outdoors use. The Duro are the best. They are very comfortable, never slip off your ears, look awesome, and work great no matter how much you drown them in sweat. They also look very cool when their stainless steel finish. Mine lasted four 2 years before the sound gave out in one ear as others said. But considering how much I beat on them, that is to be expected. And for the cheap price, you just buy another pair. The other only issue you might have is that they distort a small amount when you max out the volume on your ipod. You don't notice it for most songs, but some heavy dance techno might max them out a bit.
